Where Is God In Times Of Crisis: Tips for Keeping Faith in Times Of Crisis

Given the current circumstances, which the world is going through.

It’s hard for anyone not to ask: What’s going on?

We are facing a time of global shock due to the current pandemic, but we are also seeing, in different nations across the globe, multiple conflicts and problems.

It would be difficult to turn a deaf ear and deny reality: we are currently facing a crisis of global magnitude.

What is more, it is not difficult to glimpse a future, in which the current situations will continue to repeat themselves more frequently.

The question therefore arises: how can we be truly safe in times of global crisis?

If I may, I will use a fragment from the Bible to present some ideas regarding this topic:

“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:

These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David.

What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.

I know your deeds.

See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut.

I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.

Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.

I am coming soon.

Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.

Revelation‬ ‭3:7-8, 10-11‬

In the previous text, the Lord Jesus speaks to the Philadelphia church to give them certainty, encouragement, and hope in the challenges they were going through during that time, and for the challenges they would face in the future.

Jesus’ promise to that church is that it would be kept in a time of world trial.

I would like to explore the reasons why the Lord promises to keep this church during these difficult times.

This allows us to conclude in what way we can be safe in times of crisis.

There are two observations that Jesus makes of the Church of Philadelphia, which he uses to explain his decision to protect them.

The first observation is that this church had kept His word.

The word of God, the Bible, is that state through which God’s will for our lives is revealed to us.

In it, we can find, among many other wonderful things, what God desires from us as his children, for our own good.

Once, I heard a preacher say that there is no safer place on earth than to be in God’s will.

The first way we can be safe during a time of crisis is to remain in loving obedience to what God has revealed in his word.

The second observation, which Jesus makes about the church, is that they had not denied His name.

Each of us faces various trials and challenges in life, with which our faith and faithfulness is put to the test.

If we want God to keep us too, during a time of global crisis, we need to stand by Jesus.

It doesn’t matter what happens in the world, it doesn’t matter what happens to us; if we remain faithful to God near Jesus there is no danger, there is no challenge that can take away the certainty and security of what is most important.

Salvation.

We will be safe in Christ, for now, and for eternity.

He who holds the key of David has opened for us a door that no one can close.

That door gives us access to a better world.

Let us look to that future and say like the apostle Paul:

Therefore we do not lose heart.

Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Jesus has promised to keep us, during this time of crisis and those to come, even beyond this temporary existence.

He has promised to keep us for eternity.
