How to Heal the Mind and Emotions with God

Read Time:3 Minute, 59 Second

Certainly, our minds and our emotions are an issue that matters to God and that He wants to heal.

It is clear in the history of redemption that God works to restore His image in us.

A few minutes ago, as I searched for an image for this post, I thought about the astute way in which the enemy has acted in human history.

First he creates harmful systems, destroys families, mercilessly wounds the minds of human beings, from all angles, and then he himself offers methods to heal the mind and regain peace.

But these methods take away our eyes from the true God and have no real effectiveness.

To reflect on these ideas, I would like to share a fragment from the Bible that gives us a starting point on the topic:

I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. ‭

|‭ Revelation‬ ‭2:19‬ ‭

One of the ideas that seems to be repeated most in the pages of the book of Revelation is that of a God who knows us.

Page after page, you can see the same phrase repeated, I know, I know, I know, he says.

We therefore have a God who knows us.

A God who not only knows our “what” and our “how”.

But a God who also knows our “why”.

As human beings, our knowledge of people is limited by what we perceive and how little we know about each other.

Even ourselves, we don’t understand why we do what we do, or why we are the way we are.

However, we have a God who knows us beyond our actions.

He can see our causes.

The more time passes, and I contemplate my life, and the process of redemption that God is doing in me.

The more I see God’s grace, pouring out on my family to heal and unite.

I am more convinced of how broad the spectrum of the problem of sin is, and how immense God’s love is.

Jesus knew the story of those sinners who came to seek his help.

Jesus was so compassionate because he not only saw their mistakes, but also knew the wounds that sin had generated in their minds and in their characters.

He knew the ways in which life had treated them, the mistakes they had made, and the wrong mechanisms that each had generated to protect themselves, or to escape a painful reality.

He thus personified, from all angles, the prophecy given by Malachi about Him by saying:

But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves.

| Malachi‬ ‭4:2‬ ‭

When we look at the cross, and we see that God who loves infinitely, let us also see that God who knows and understands us infinitely.

To that God who is willing to heal our minds from the wounds, others have caused us in the past.

To heal ourselves also from the wounds that we ourselves have caused ourselves.

Many of those wounds are the “why” of our current character flaws, of our sinful inclinations, and of our many mistakes.

That God who loves us and knows us is also the God who wants to heal us.

That God, who knows us, knows more about us than we do ourselves.

It has been my experience, and from a biblical perspective, I believe that the starting point for true mental, and emotional healing is to understand the truth of God’s loving character.

Understand that, although everyone judges us unfairly, even though we judge ourselves unjustly.

He judges with justice and truth.

He sees what no one sees, he understands what no one understands.

You can come to Him without fear of rejection, you can come to Him without hiding behind a mask.

Without fear that He will become impatient.

Without fear that He will be intolerant.

You can come to Him as people came to Jesus: destroyed by sin and struck by life.

He treated none of them without love.

He listened to everyone carefully, and attended to their needs tenderly.

That is the God who wants to heal your mind.

Heal your emotions and heal your heart.

Open the doors for Him to come in, teach you, and help you heal.
