What does the Bible say about dealing with sorrow? 2 Keys

Today I will answer with you the question: What does the Bible say about dealing with sorrow?.

Also, from my personal experience, I will share with you the remedy for sorrow and sadness in the Bible.

Let’s set out to it.

Bible verse about sorrow and pain

To do so, I would like to share with you a little story from the Bible and then reflect on it together.

In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly.

And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”

(…) Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.

1 Samuel 1:10-11, 18

The above account is about Hannah, the mother of the prophet Samuel.

She was infertile before she had her son, and this had brought her many misfortunes and sorrows.

First, not being able to give her husband a child, he had taken another wife, so he could have children.

This was a generally accepted custom because of the importance of perpetuating offspring.

The other wife’s name was Peninnah.

Hannah not only had to carry the frustration of not being able to be a mother, but now she had to put up with her husband having another wife.

Even worse, this woman constantly humiliated and mistreated her because she could not have children.

Hannah was going through a very sorrowful situation that even led her to lose her appetite and spend her days crying bitterly.

But how did Hanna deal with sorrow?, and what can we learn from her story about What the Bible says about dealing with sorrow.

#1.  Pour out your heart to God

The first thing we learn from What the Bible says about dealing with sorrow is a sincere prayer.

Letting your emotions be known to God and opening your heart to Him, who cares for you.

Hannah took her sorrows to God.

She did not ignore her emotions, nor did she let them determine the course of her story.

She armed herself with determination and in a fervent prayer shared her bitterness and sadness with God.

She told Him about how she felt and what she wanted.

The Bible says that after that moment of prayer, Hannah was not sorrowful again.

#2. Believe that God cares

The second thing we learn from What the Bible says about dealing with sorrow is understanding the heart of God towards you in your distress.

During and after a real, sincere, transparent, and authentic prayer in which we share with God the cause of our pain and our sadness, in which we express how we feel and what we want.

Believe that God actually do cares about how you feel and wants to help you overcome your current situation.

Something that also helped end Hannah’s sadness was that she trusted that God would give her the best.

Often, trusting God and expecting the best from Him, causes us to view life with hope and calmness.

We are no longer prey to anguish and fear.

Faith leads us to a place of rest, leaving our future, past and present in the arms of God’s love.

In our prayer, we should fully open your heart to God understanding that He loves us, understands us, and cares deeply about us.

When we do this, our heart is relieved and we stop living a sad life.

God takes our burdens and gives us rest.

God’s peace floods our hearts and life’s difficulties become more bearable.

Conclusion

If you are going through a situation of sorrow, I would like to invite you to give yourself the opportunity to open your heart to God in prayer.

Let yourself talk to Him in total sincerity, without the need for formalisms or saying things that don’t really matter.

An authentic prayer where you express everything that you feel and that happens to you.

Not only that, but also express what you want believing that He really cares.

You will see how after this you start to be better.

Do you dare to say that prayer?

I hope these words have been a blessing to your life.
