Consecuencias de mentir según la Biblia

Is it a sin to tell lies? | According to the Bible

Read Time:2 Minute, 38 Second

In my personal life, one of the things I’ve noticed that is harder to improve is the fact that I occasionally tell lies.

Today, at least in the environments in which I have shared with other people, this topic is not presented as such a relevant issue.

To the point that, even among Christians, it is common and even acceptable to lie.

But, what does the Bible say about lying?

In God’s eyes, is it really something of little meaning?

To address this issue, I want to share a short fragment from the Bible that I found conclusive about it:

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

| Apocalipsis‬ ‭21:8‬

One of the things that surprised me the most in the Bible is seeing how it is possible to observe biblical characters lying occasionally.

I’m not going to mention here in detail who, a personal study of yours will be enough to determine it.

However, this observation speaks to me of how common and easy it can be for us human beings, even at different stages of our walk with God, to lie.

Interesting is that in the Bible text we just read, God places lying on a level with other sins like idolatry, murder, sorcery, sexual immorality.

The word of God mentions that along with those who practice such sin,

(…) they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

There are many verses in which the Bible condemns lying as a terrible sin.

For God there are no small or great sins, all sin is equally abominable.

Jesus died because of every lie, of any kind or nature, just as he did because of every murder, robbery, etc.

Regardless of the reason why the lie occurs, or the consequences it produces, a lie will always be a lie.

The false is contrary to God’s character of truth and therefore is wrong.

The habit of lying is, in part, something learned in our childhood or acquired during periods of our lives.

God can heal us from that sin, as from any other.

My invitation is that together we examine our lives and if we have not yet understood the gravity of this matter, simply because it is something socially accepted, let us pray that Holy Spirit will help us kill to overcome it.
