What Is God’s Heart For Us

This topic has become perhaps one of my favorite topics in the Bible.

Finding Bible fragments that allow me to take a look at God’s heart.

Knowing what his heart is like has become my fascination.

There are countless occasions when God allows us to know Him intimately through his word.

Today I found, in my study, one of those moments in which God opens his heart to humanity and allows us to see what is inside.

Let’s read a short Bible text to introduce the topic:

‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.

Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession.

Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’

Exodus‬ ‭19:4-6‬ ‭

I would like to make a few observations about the heart of God based on the Bible text above.

God’s heart delights in us being near him

The first thing we can notice here is that God’s heart delights in us being near him.

The text says, “I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.”

God had lovingly delivered the people from whom the blessing of his covenant would come into the world, and he longed to delight in a special closeness with them.

In the same way, God’s heart today seeks to draw you to himself so that you can enjoy the purpose of your existence.

God wants to protect us and give us the best

The second thing we observe about God’s heart is that He loves with a love that protects and wants the best for us.

It says, “Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant”

The closest thing in our lives would be the love of a good father or a good mother.

Just as God longed for in the past for the people of Israel, God today wants us to live our lives in the best possible way.

His will, so that we may enjoy life properly, and so that we may not turn away from him.

God’s heart is tender

The third thing I would like to mention about God’s heart is the tenderness that he allows us to see.

Although we are often reluctant to give ourselves to Him, to voluntarily be His, He sees us as “His special treasure.”

I don’t know what you think, but, knowing that for God I am a special treasure.

That He in his greatness expresses those words about you and me has a very important impact on my life.

As we look at God’s heart, we see that it is full of love and tenderness.

Just as God wanted Israel to willingly give themselves as his treasure, he desires the same from you and me today.

The last thing I would like to emphasize about this is that God’s heart longs for intimacy with his children.

In the previous bible verses, we see how God wants to set these people apart to be “a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.”

So that in this way they may be intimately close to a completely holy God.

God’s heart today also wants you and I to be close to him, intimately intertwined to his heart in the love of Jesus Christ.

Many people today have fallen into the trap of thinking that God is someone different from who he really is.

Many think that God is something of a tyrant, a plaintiff who wants to keep us under control because he can’t stand us being different.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

I wouldn’t want to let the opportunity pass today without inviting you to carefully reconsider your idea about who God is and what He is like.

A correct perspective of him will change your life forever.
