7 Horrible Consequences of Living in Sin | According to the Bible

Read Time:4 Minute, 19 Second

Today millions of people live, without understanding it, slaves to a terrible evil that controls their lives.

That evil is sin.

A condition that separates us from God, that leads us to hurt others and to choose what is least convenient for us.

Today I would like to share, in a non-exhaustive way, what the Bible teaches about the consequences of living in sin.

Verse about the consequences of living in sin

To do so, I first invite you to read a bible text.

So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.

They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.

Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.

Ephesians 4:17 -19

In these verses, the apostle Paul, in his letter to the church of Ephesus, mentions some characteristics of people living in sin.

These characteristics are in themselves consequences of the way they live.

#1 A futile way of thinking

The first consequence of living in sin that is presented to us is that of having a futile way of thinking, that is, living without a purpose.

Living in sin inevitably makes our life and our way of thinking increasingly futile and lacking meaning.

#2 Having a darkened understanding

The second consequence of living in sin is that our ability to understand our mistakes is reduced, as well as our ability to see our need to improve and get out of our condition.

When we surrender to sin, we lose mental clarity and cannot reason fully coherently.

#3 Living in ignorance

The third consequence of living in sin is that by rejecting the truth of God’s love, and our need for Him, we increasingly convince ourselves that we are wiser than others.

We convince ourselves that we are somehow superior to those who live according to God’s will, when in fact we are living in ignorance.

#4 Having a hardened heart

The fourth consequence of living in sin is that a spirit of arrogance takes hold of us and leads us to reject the truth with increasing vehemence.

The Holy Spirit continues to invite us to be reconciled to God, but it becomes increasingly difficult for us to hear Him, and when we hear Him we behave hostilely toward His calls.

#5 Separating oneself from the life that comes from God

The fifth consequence of living in sin is death.

The Bible teaches that the wages of sin is eternal death, meaning that one day we will be judged and found guilty and will have to face the eternal consequences of our choices.

Not only that, but while living in sin, we experience a condition that the Bible compares to being dead while alive.

God wants to give us freedom, happiness, and life, but by living in sin we reject his offer, and live increasingly unhappy, hurting ourselves and others.

#6 Losing all moral sensitivity

The sixth consequence of living in sin is a loss of all moral sensitivity.

When we surrender to a life of sin, that which is evidently wicked and evil becomes increasingly tolerable.

We are gradually becoming capable of the most terrible things we have ever imagined.

#7 Indulging in all kinds of impurity

The seventh consequence of living in sin is that, because of our loss of moral sensitivity, we sadly end up living a libertine and pernicious life.

A self-destructive and immoral life.

Dear reader, what God wants for us will always be better than what our sinful nature has to offer.

God loves you and wants the best for you.

He’s not trying to hold you back from something good or deceive you, He’s trying to guide and protect you.

The consequences of living in sin are dire and devastating.

If by reading these lines, you have identified with any of the consequences of living in sin, I want to take this opportunity to invite you to open your heart to God.

Ask him for help to get out of the place where you are.

He has never left you and will always be willing to help you return to Him.

I hope these words are a blessing to your life.
