The Bible mentions several people who found grace in the eyes of God.
Among them are Noah, Abraham, and Moses, and others.
The expression finding grace in the eyes of God refers to the person who is favored by God.
That is to say that God looks at that person with pleasure, for this reason, God blesses this person in a special way.
Today, I would like to reflect on how we can find grace in the eyes of God.
For this, I would like us to start from a small bible text:
And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”
Exodus 33:17
In this text, Moses is asking God to please restore the covenant broken by the people of Israel when they turned to idolatry.
He asks God to please accompany them to the promised land, rather than simply sending an angel.
God’s answer is that because of Moses’ humble request, He would do what Moses asked him due to how much he considered Moses his friend, and Moses counted on his favor.
Moses had found grace in the eyes of God.
Now, the question that arises to me after considering that idea is why did Moses have God’s favor?
Why does the Bible highlight certain characters particularly, saying that they found grace in the eyes of God?
In determining this, how can we too find grace in the eyes of God?
To answer that question, let us just look at the lives of the people to whom this was told.
In the specific case of Moses, we see that although Moses was far from being a perfect human being, the special relationship he had with God was based on a very important characteristic.
Obedience.
Moses, though imperfect, lived a life directed by God.
A life in which he considered what God expected of him, and tried to live according to what God asked him to do.
Moses was faithful to God’s purposes for his life, through obedience to God.
Similarly, other people in the Bible stories chose to remain on God’s side when others turned away from him.
Today, we are presented with the opportunity to have God’s favor, to find grace in the eyes of God.
We, like Moses, are far from being perfect.
Yet, Jesus has covered us with his perfection.
Jesus was obedient in everything, for us.
He did it to be our righteousness and to earn God’s favor in our place.
You and I too, through obedience to God in Christ Jesus, can have God’s favor.
As we walk with Jesus during our lives in friendship and obedience to Him.
By accepting his merits for us rather than our own, we find grace in the eyes of God.
God is extending his favor and grace to all mankind.
To you and me through Jesus.
Finding favor in God’s eyes requires that we recognize His son and walk in obedience to Him throughout our lives.
