How to keep the ten commandments | According to the Bible

Read Time:3 Minute, 46 Second

In the Christian world, much is said about the Ten Commandments.

Some are of the opinion that they are no longer in force, others that they are.

Some say that we must keep them, some others say we don’t.

I would like to begin my post by saying that I write from the perspective that God’s law is based on eternal principles that remain in force.

Today I set out to share how to keep the Ten Commandments, directly from what the Bible says.

To do so, I invite you to read with me a small bible text on the subject:

‭‭Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.

The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Love does no harm to a neighbor.

Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Romanos‬ ‭13:8-10‬

These verses give us a beautiful testimony of how we can keep the commandments of our God.

In this passage, Paul confirms the words of the Lord Jesus by reiterating that love is the fulfillment of God’s law.

Jesus himself, when questioned about the question of what was the most important commandment, replied as follows:

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

This is the first and greatest commandment.

And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Matthew 22:37-40

When we seek to keep the precepts of our God starting from a point other than love, we will always reach the wrong destination.

Throughout my life, I have watched with frustration and sadness as good people who want to please God hurt themselves by taking the path of the law instead of the path of grace.

Seeking to perfect their behavior, they carry the heavy cross of the law without the help of the shoulder of the carpenter who was responsible for carrying it.

They hurt themselves because they do not understand this wonderful and liberating principle.

The principle that the power to live in harmony with God is found on the cross.

In the love that God gave to the world through his son.

A love that is available to anyone who opens his heart to accept it.

A love capable of transforming the soul.

When those who seek to perfect themselves by works attempt to change the inside from the outside, the perfection of God’s love is available to perform a transformation from the inside out.

When we surrender to the loving arms of the Eternal Father and let His love awaken in us love for Him and love for our neighbor, fulfilling His law is not a burden but a delight.

The law is fulfilled in love, it is not fulfilled in self-sufficiency.

It is fulfilled in weakness, in dependence on God.

In intimate communion with heaven through a personal experience of faith, not a mere military formalism.

God longs for you to draw near to Him by the path of grace, by the path of love, by friendship with Jesus, by the path of Calvary.

It doesn’t matter how hard you try to reach God’s arms in another way, because God’s arms are already open to welcome you at the place where you are.

No prerequisites, no refinement.

With nothing to give.

Love and be free, I once heard someone say.

That is the real path of the law, the path of freedom.

The path of love.

I hope these words have been a blessing to your life.
