How To Surrender To God And Let Go

I would venture to say that we have all at some point in our lives gone through stages where we have the impression that we do not know where we are going in life.

Feeling lost, being afraid of the future.

Not being clear about which decision or which path to take.

Circumstances such as choosing a career, a divorce, the death of a loved one, a career change, unemployment, economic bankruptcy, a change of residence, being left without friends, a breakup.

Some, with greater difficulty, live all their lives in such a condition of uncertainty.

Today I would like to share with you a few short but profound words on this subject.

The Lord Jesus once said of himself:

(…) “I am the light of the world.

Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

| John 8:12

You know.

The future has always been uncertain.

No human being comes into the world after having received a Ph.D., except for our basic instincts, not even a basic survival course on how to live life.

This is why it is natural to feel that we do not know where we are going.

There is a funny saying in Spanish that says:

“Where is Vincent going? Where the people are going!”

And that saying responds exactly to what most of us do by not knowing what to do with our lives.

We simply imitate others.

And what’s the problem with that?

The problem with this occurs when we are all doing exactly the same thing for the same reason (i.e., we see that another does it).

This becomes a pattern of irrational, hollow, empty actions driven by the fear of failing and the fear of not fitting in.

The reality is that most of the time, most people do things for the wrong reasons.

Although many of us never notice it, most of us live life without being able to see clearly where we are going.

It’s as if the crowd we follow prevents us from seeing the destination.

It is as if we were walking on a very dark night without being able to see the path we walked, nor where our steps will take us.

We simply hope that, whatever the outcome, everything goes well.

For some this works, for others not so much.

But let me give you the best news, you don’t have to live without knowing where you’re going, there’s something you can do.

You were created by and belong to — a wonderful God — who made provision for you to find the right path in life.

You don’t need to walk in the dark, for the world has a light.

There is a light larger than the sun, which can illuminate your life and your steps.

This light will allow you to see clearly what you don’t see now and will enable you to move forward, no longer in darkness, but in the clarity of noon.

Having the light of Jesus in life is not a metaphor, as you may be believing as you read these lines.

Having the light of Jesus in life is a reality beyond all uncertainty for those who experience it.

This is why the psalmist prophetically says about Jesus for us:

No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame (…)

Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.

He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.

All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.

Who, then, are those who fear the Lord?

He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.

They will spend their days in prosperity, and their descendants will inherit the land.

| Psalm 25:3, 8-10, 12-13

Look, you can keep walking without knowing where you’re going, blind through life, stumbling and falling incessantly.

Or you can draw near to Jesus who is the light of the world and be sure that He will show you the way forward.

And not only that, but he will guide you through it according to his grace and his will.

The solution to any uncertainty or need for meaning will always be in Him.

No one comes into the world with a Ph.D., not even a basic survival course on how to live life.

It is true, but if you came into the world with the possibility of taking the hand of the one who created you so that your life may have meaning and purpose in Him.

He himself, Jesus, will teach you to live it and he himself will fulfill his purpose in you.

If you want it and if you allow it.

Nothing is more real.
