Ways To Stop Sinning In The Bible

This may be one of the most basic but important questions those of us who follow God can ask.

How to stop sinning?

Let me put the answer to that question in terms of a biblical idea.

No one would like to live in physical darkness.

The reason for this is that we are not made to live in it.

God gave us eyes to admire the beauty of his creation, which is revealed through the Light.

Man was created to live in light, not in darkness.

This is a truth for both the physical and the spiritual.

As far as the spiritual is concerned, it means that the human being was not created to live in the darkness of evil, the product of sin.

We were not created to live in sin.

While people who live in spiritual darkness, deep in their hearts long for a ray of light to illuminate their lives.

Many of us who know and have lived in the light do not value it as we should.

As people go through life stumbling, begging for some light, desperately searching for it, some of us who know the light come to prefer the darkness of sin.

But how to overcome this condition?

Scripture says that God called us from darkness into his admirable light.

The light of God is such a light that it penetrates every corner of the being.

His light reveals the dark details that the same darkness once hid.

In other words, it reveals the sin in our lives.

The Bible expresses it as follows:

(…) God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

| 1 John‬ ‭1:5-10‬ ‬‬

Whoever truly lives in the light, recognizes the darkness of sin that still remains in his life.

He does not live in darkness, however, he knows that they still exist in his being and fights by the hand of the Holy Spirit to eradicate them.

The reason why many of us do not perceive our darkness, and think that everything is going perfectly, that in us there is no sin; it’s because we haven’t got close enough to the light.

It is because our experience of life lacks the actual presence of God in it.

Someone who walks in the light of God recognizes and hates the darkness that still remains.

Someone who walks in the light is sensitive to his sin.

But he does not stay in sin, nor does he want to remain in it.

On the contrary, he clings to the blood of Christ to be cleansed.

The remedy to stop sinning is to approach God with greater determination every day.

To stop sinning, let the light of Christ illuminate our lives.

Let us love, and value that light.

Let us recognize our weaknesses and with a contrite heart let us ask God to give us more light and more love for Him to eradicate the darkness of sin that we have left.
