15 Verses on Free Will in the Bible

Free will in the Bible is one of the most beautiful blessings the Lord Jesus has given us.

The Bible tells us of the great freedom to choose that God does not give, you are free to do or not to do, to follow or not to follow Christ.

The verses about free will in the Bible are not for you to rebelliously make the decision to save yourself or lose yourself, which you surely can.

Rather, what is sought is for you to realize that God does not want to force you to follow Him, but wants you to make the decision to follow Him out of love.

Therefore, I will judge you, each according to his conduct, O house of Israel,” declares the Lord God. Repent and depart from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be a stumbling block for you. Cast out of yourselves all the transgressions you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. Why should you die, house of Israel? For I am not pleased in the death of anyone “declares the Lord God.” Repent and live.

Ezekiel 18:30-32

So I say, Walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the desire of the flesh. For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit(s) against the flesh, for they oppose each other, so that you cannot do what you desire.

Galatians 5:16-17

For you, brethren, were called to freedom; Only do not (use) freedom as a pretext for the flesh, but serve one another out of love.

Galatians 5:13

See, I have today set before you life and good, death and evil; for I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His decrees, that you may live and multiply, that the LORD your God may bless you in the land which you are going to enter to possess it. But if your heart wanders and you do not listen, but let yourself be dragged and prostrate yourself before other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you will certainly perish.

You will not prolong {your} days on the land where you {go,} crossing the Jordan to enter it and possess it. Heaven and earth I place today as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose, then, life that you and your descendants may live, loving the LORD your God, listening to His voice and alleging you to Him; for that is your life and the length of your days, that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to give to your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Deuteronomy 30:15-20

Now therefore fear the Lord and serve Him with integrity and faithfulness; take away the gods that your fathers served across the river and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. And if it does not seem right to you to serve the Lord, choose today whom you are to serve: whether the gods who served your fathers, who (were) on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell; but I and my house will serve the Lord.

Joshua 24:14-15

Perhaps their supplication will come before the LORD, and all will turn from their evil way, for great is the wrath and fury which the LORD has uttered against this people.

Jeremiah 36:7

Come now, and let us reason,” says the LORD, “though your sins be as scarlet, as snow shall be made white; Even if they are red like crimson, like {white} wool will remain. If you will, and obey, you will eat the best of the earth; But if you refuse and rebel, by the sword you will be devoured. Verily, the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

He has not taken you temptation, but human: God is more faithful, who will not let you be tempted any more than you can carry; Before, together with temptation, the way out will also give you, so that you can endure.

Blessed are your men, and blessed are these your servants, who are always before you, and hear your wisdom.

2 Chronicles 9:7

The Lord does not delay his promise, as some have it for tardiness; but He is patient with us, not wanting any to perish, but for all to proceed to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9

And if it seems wrong to you to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve; whether to the gods whom your fathers served, when they were on the other side of the river, or to the gods of the Amorrheos in whose land ye dwell: that I and my house shall serve the Lord.

Joshua 24:15

To heaven and earth I call for witnesses today against you, who have set before you life and death, blessing and curse: choose therefore life, that you and your seed live: That you love the Lord your God, that you hear his voice, and rise to him; for he is thy life, and the length of thy days; that you may dwell upon the land which the Lord swore to your parents Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, that he was to give them.
