How To Deal With Toxic People In A Godly Way In 3 Steps

One of the most interesting things that Christianity proposes to us is the radically different idea of  how to treat people who hate us or hurt us.

Today, I have resolved to call this group of people, toxic people.

I intend to present Bible principles on How To Deal With Toxic People In A Godly Way.

As I continue my study of the book of Romans, I was meditating on one of my favorite chapters in the book.

Chapter twelve.

As I read one of its fragments, I prayed to receive a personal word from God.

Today, I would like to share with you what I believe I received in response to that prayer.

A method on how to deal with toxic people biblically.

To deal with those who harm, hate or hurt us.

Bible verse on how to deal with toxic people

I would like to invite you to read with me to introduce the topic:

Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.

In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Romans 12: 17 – 21

From my experience, this teaching is perhaps one of the most difficult to practice in Christian life.

Often, when someone does or says something against me, I see in my heart that initiative to react with defense mechanisms that seek to respond to the other with the same treatment as I have received.

The more so if it is a toxic person who has decided that he hates me and is determined to hurt me.

When the Apostle Paul says:

Do not let yourself be overcome by evil; on the contrary, overcome evil with good.

It’s giving us a very interesting principle for dealing with toxic people.

These people who hate us or hurt us.

#1 Don’t be contaminated with their toxic emotions

The first bible principle on How To Deal With Toxic People In A Godly Way is to not let ourselves be contaminated with their toxic emotions by replicating their actions against them.

If we let the actions or attitudes of the other generate in us the same negative responses, we are giving that person a power that they should not have.

The power to transform us into what that person is.

We are letting ourselves be overcome by evil, and we ourselves are becoming part of the problem.

#2 Give a positive response to a negative stimulus

The second bible principle on How To Deal With Toxic People In A Godly Way is choosing a better path than paying them back.

It is overcoming evil with good.

We can choose the path of freedom.

The way of forgiveness, the way of healing.

Giving a positive response to a negative stimulus will always be more difficult, but in doing so you will be taking care of your mind and soul.

You will be doing what is best for yourself and for each other.

#3 Set boundaries when dealing with toxic people

The third bible principle on How To Deal With Toxic People In A Godly Way is to set proper boundaries or limits in your relationships.

I’m not saying by this that we should stay in toxic relationships, but that we should take a moment to pause, think about what the appropriate response is, and always give the right response.

For our own good and for the sake of others.

When dealing with toxic people, it is always necessary to set boundaries.

Not because we hate that person or because we want to repay them the same way, but because we must be wise in our actions and guard ourselves against being exposed to situations in which others hurt us.

Being wise in our actions, we must seek to act in love, guided by the Holy Spirit.

Let’s try to keep our distance from those people who need to mature and grow in areas where we are already doing so, and not respond in the same way.

Let us pray for these people and look at them with compassion, for they are prey to evil and error.

They need compassion from us, who are blessed by enjoying freedom in God’s love.

I hope these words have been a blessing to your life.
