The Second Comming Of Christ: How To Be Ready For It

We are going through unusual times because of the coronavirus.

Many of us wonder if this is the end of the world.

We face challenges that we do not expect to face as a society.

However, if it were, what should I do personally?

These are questions that some of us are asking ourselves from our homes.

I would like to share with you a couple of thoughts related to this topic.

My hope is that they can be of blessing to you.

The first thought I want to highlight is that when we look at history, we quickly conclude that it is not healthy to make speculations.

While it is true that we are living in strange times, and that from a Christian perspective, we can observe that history collides towards the end of time.

We do not know for sure which of our current observations and assumptions remain mere speculation, or which of them will eventually be triggered in reality.

The signs that the Bible presents in relation to the time of the end of the world have been fulfilled for years.

With increasing agility.

Are we living in the time of the end?.

The answer is yes.

It’s been a long time.

However, to the question: is the coronavirus the key event that will trigger the end of human history?

The answer is: we don’t know exactly.

To say that we have determined this will lead us into the dangerous terrain of unnecessary speculation.

Now, if we know that for a long time we have been going through the last scenes of the history of our era, but we cannot determine if this specific event has a direct relationship with the very end.

What should we do?

To answer that question, I want us to read a fragment from the Bible.

In this section, two ideas are presented that I consider being key.

(…) Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.

(…)The one who is victorious will not be hurt at all by the second death.

| Revelation‬ ‭2:10-11‬

This text is part of the message given by Jesus to the church of Smyrna.

In their time, they went through very difficult times.

Members of their own community did them a lot of harm.

They were also persecuted, imprisoned, and killed because of the name of Jesus.

In this scenario of suffering, the message that Jesus gives them resonates with echoes throughout history.

Even today, it retains its relevance to our own time.

The first message is to persevere to the end.

In the difficult times we are going through today.

In the many ways in which our lives and our belief system are being challenged.

In the uncertainties of tomorrow and the discouragements of the present.

In the midst of it all, we are given the invitation to persevere in our trust in God.

We are invited to persevere in our attempts to draw near to Him.

We are invited to persevere in our faithfulness to Him.

We don’t know exactly how much is missing until the end comes.

But we have already been shown the route.

What we need to do.

Persevere in faithfulness and faith until that time comes, or until our time comes to depart.

Beyond speculating about the proximity of time, let us take this opportunity to build by the hand of God, together with our loved ones, the foundations of faith on which we can face any time.

Rather than being disheartened, let us seize the opportunity to trust.

To see the hand of God do his work in history and in human lives.

The second thought I want to highlight is not to be afraid.

Jesus’ message has always been a message of hope.

“The one who is victorious will not be hurt at all by the second death.”

The words of the apostle Paul resound in my mind, as he said:

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

| Romans 8:38-39

Whatever specific historical moment we are going through in relation to the end of the world.

Let us remember that those of us who walk alongside Jesus have nothing to fear.

Nothing to fear.

I would like to close these lines with an invitation.

To those of us who have not yet had the beautiful experience of walking with God.

To the question: what should I do?

There is only one way to be fully secure in this difficult time and for eternity.

Live in harmony with God through his son Jesus.

All of us start to do that at some point.

This may be yours.

Don’t miss this opportunity to do it yourself, too.
